This is my formal apology to Bob Balaban. Bob is the original designer of the LotusScript backend classes. I criticize these classes almost constantly later in this book. As a programmer, I understand that he was working under deadlines, and the company would not dedicate the correct resources to the initial design. Bob built a good foundation for what should have become the easiest programming experience ever. Lotus/IBM have continued to expand on his work, and while there has been some new functionality, each addition is more difficult to use and shows less thought than the last. Thankfully, new releases rarely break previously working functionality. (One major exception has its own section in this book.) Without LotusScript, I would not have considered Lotus Notes as a development platform, so Bob has my gratitude.
